Adam Andreas Laser
May 3, 1995 - July 28, 2023
Adam Andreas Laser was born May 3, 1995 in Calgary, AB. In typical Type A fashion, he arrived on his due date at the appropriate time and location. He grew up in the community of Citadel and began building his treasured friend base through his school years. Adam was a straight A student, he excelled at pretty much any subject he was assigned.
With flyer routes, snow shovelling and lawn cutting for his neighbours, Adam was an entrepreneur from a young age and knew the value of hard-earned money. Adam was never afraid of a little hard work – well as long as there was a paycheck at the end of it. Adam was an active child who loved playing hockey. He played minor hockey with Crowfoot and Bow River through his elementary and high school years. While not necessarily the fastest kid on the ice, more often than not he was the captain for his team and a gentleman on and off the ice. It was his love for hockey that branched into officiating with Hockey Calgary as a teenager. Adam continued to be actively involved as a highly regarded official in Calgary Minor and Elite Council hockey with Hockey Alberta until the end of the 2023 season.
After graduating high school, Adam was accepted into the Faculty of Engineering at University of Calgary. Once again, Adam navigated the world of academia with ease. His success at university can also be attributed to the friendships he developed. Adam deeply valued his relationships with these young men and the adventures that followed. In 2018, he graduated with distinction, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialty in Biomedical Engineering.
Adam began his promising career in engineering with Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). He got right to work quickly learning, not only his co-workers’ names, but also who they were. It didn’t matter what your title, Adam saw opportunity to learn from everyone and had great respect for his colleagues that worked in downtown Calgary or in one of the many sites where hard hats and steel toed boots were the dress code. His work family meant so very much to him for both his professional and personal growth. We think that he was also able to leave an impact on his CNRL family as well and are grateful for the guidance and friendship of his colleagues.
Adam accomplished much professionally in his young life and while he was well known for his brilliant mind, he was better known for his kind heart. Adam lived his life with intentionality and purpose that came from his love and relationship with Christ. Adam’s desire to serve others took him to places near and far, involved in his local RockPointe and Tuscany Missional Church, Camp Chamisall, working with Syrian refugees with Mafraq Alliance Church in Jordan, and more. See ‘Adam’s Impact’ to read more about his various involvements.
Adam was 28-years old when he, along with 5 other remarkable young men, died in a plane crash in Kananaskis on July 28, 2023. While his life was cut far too short, the impact he has left on the world around him is undeniable. Adam often contemplated how he would leave his mark on the world and what his legacy would be. In the eyes and hearts of his family and friends, that legacy is significant and impactful. He is missed greatly and we would miss a huge opportunity by not continuing with the story he began.
